Greenhouse gas emission allowance trading in the EU
The European Union directive about greenhouse gas emission allowance trading, the EU ETS, is an important tool to control above all carbon dioxide emissions within the EU and thereby also to cap global warming and fight the climate change. EU ETS applies to a wide range of industrial activities as well as to sea and air transport within the EU. However, carbon dioxide generated from biomass fuel is exempted from the ETS requirements on obtaining and handing in emission permits.
